Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ik Express Dairies is to axe scores of distribution jobs in a bid to reduce over-capacity in the dairy industry.

Rationalisation will include the closure of its distribution centre in Salisbury, which employs 44 people, and the loss of 18 jobs at the company's Soho Street depot in Birmingham, which supplies small shops and catering customers.

A spokesperson says a total of 460 redundancies are planned in production and administration as well as distribution; how they will be allocated will remain unclear until negotiations with trade unions are completed. About 90 new jobs will be created at other Express sites, mainly in distribution.

The company. which is the UK's largest liquid cream and milk supplier. has already closed three dairies since taking over Glanbia's liquid milk operations in June.

Chief executive Neil Davidson says the rationale for the acquisition was ''maximising efficiency while reducing overcapacity in our industry". He adds: "Like previous phases of restructuring, these measures will deliver significant cost savings while maintaining high levels of customer service."
