INDEPENDENT bus operators who apply for Bus Grants when buying new stagecarriage vehicles, are finding that the amount they are paying their drivers is now being taken into consideration before the Bus Grant is approved.
The Department of Transport is considering applications on their merits and within appropriate allocations, but is in addition taking into account an .operator's observation of, and intention to continue to observe, pay policy.
Information about the public sector of the industry is already available through normal monitoring arrangements.
For independent operators the DTp proposes that all applicants for Bus Grants will be informed of approval in principle for their receiving the grant. But they will be required to give information on recent or proposed pay settlements and the extent to which these are within the Government pay policy, will be taken into account before considering the application.
