Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LAST week, the annual general meet1--Aing of the East Lancashire Road Transport Association and the Commercial Motor Users Association was held in Blackburn. The chairman of the joint organization, Mr. J. Ainsworth, presided.

Discussion took place on the question of the new wages rates for the industry and the application for a further immediate increase which had been made by the trade unions. It was decided to hold a special meeting on Sunday next (February 4) to discuss these matters.

The disabilities of the fuel-rationing system also came under notice. The secretary mentioned that if road operators desired to retain their normal businesses, they might be compelled, in the near future, to seek an alternative fuel or, with short-distance traffic, to revert to horsed transport. It was probable that more co-ordinated running would follow greater stringency in fuel supplies.

The following were elected to vacancies on the Executive Council :C-licence holder, Mr. E. Barmby; A and B-licence holders, Messrs. J. A. Duxbury-, H. Harwood and J. Hindle.
