Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Editor, THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR.

[3985] Sir,—In your issue of The Commercial Motor dated December 2, under "Opinions and Queries," you have a very interesting note in reply to one of your correspondents, "Insured."

As a matter of interest, I should be very pleased if you would kindly name the insurance company which will admit liability for consequential loss in connection with an insured vehicle that has met with an accident.

"Insured" states that the lorry would have to have been completely rebuilt, so he bought a new one to replace it. I piesume this was done with his insurance company's permission?

Would you oblige by letting me know, through your columns, full particulars of such an insurance as would carry the responsibilities indicated in your reply?

INTERESTED.

[I am afraid you have not read the inquiry signed "Insured" very carefully. I did not state that any insurance company would be prepared to pay a claim made out on the lines specified in that inquiry and in my reply. The Inquiry merely asked what should be included in any such claim, and I replied to that inquiry. Risks of loss of business can be insured against, and if you inquire of Dryden, Greenaway and Co., Charterhouse Chambers, Charterhouse square, London, E.C.1, you will be able to get a quotation for the same. The amount of the premium, however, I imagine, will surprise you. For your information I should point out that the proper procedure in any such case as that outlined would be to claim, not against the insurance company, but against the other party involved in the accident which was the originating cause of the claim. I do not know whether the purchase of a new lorry was carried Out with the permission of the insurance company or not. That point also was one which was not raised in the inquiry.—S.T.R.]
