• The licence held by a Merseyside international operator was suspended when he failed to appear before North Western Traffic Commissioner Keith Waterworth.

Brian Hunt, trading as Brimargam International Transport, holds an international licence for two vehicles. He was called before the TC at a Leeds disciplinary inquiry because of concerns over maintenance and an hours conviction. There were also suggestions that the nominated transport manager had left the business leaving no current CPC holder, and that the vehicles were being kept at an unauthorised operating centre in Widnes.

Vehicle examiner Alan Barnes said two immediate and five delayed prohibitions had been imposed on Hunt's vehicles. He had examined two vehicles and a trailer by pre-arrangement in August, imposing an immediate prohibition on one of the vehicles for a parking-brake defect.

No maintenance records were available for the past 15 months and no driver defect reporting system was in use.

Suspending the licence with effect from midnight that day, the TC said Hunt had also failed to provide financial information.

Waterworth indicated that the licence would remain suspended until Hunt appeared before him at a disciplinary inquiry to answer his concerns.
