by Bryan Jarvis • Triple 9 Services' first artic in a fleet of five animal feed delivery vehicles has been specified so that owner Mike McGuire can take optimum payloads into the most awkward farm areas.

The new outfit comprises a used ERF Fuel Duel 6x2 tractive unit with 380hp Cummins M11 engine and a 33ft (10m), 44.4m3 multicompartment Alibulk body on a Fruehauf chassis. It runs on air-ride Mentor axles—the front axle lifts, and for greater manoeuvrability the rear axle turns via the Tridec hydraulic steering system.

Priden Engineering supplied the Holmes blower, Drum cooling pack and Volvo hydraulic pneumatic discharge package. The body also has Dawbarn's Rollover sheet and a Maywood On Board weigher for accurate deliveries. The new artic joins several eight-leggers, one of which has suck-andblow loading which is useful for feed recovery.

McGuire says the new artic cost about £20,000 more than an eight-legger but the VED is £3,120 lower for a two-tonne greater payload. And in January, the 22-tonne payload will rise to 24 tonnes with the new weight limit.
