Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

From next year the multi-lateral EC/ECMT annual permit will cost £100, compared with the present £105. The threemonth permit will cost £26 instead of £27.

The single-journey permit is also being reduced, from £2.80 to £2, and the multijourney permit will fall from £1.70 to £1 per journey.

Annual period permits and three-month period permits remain at £50 and 814 respectively. Bottomley told MPs that the reduction follows successful bi-lateral negotiations with other countries.

Significant increases in the UK's quotas will lead to greater income from permits without a significant increase in cost.

"The Government will continue to make representations to the European Community for the early removal of all permits and other restrictive trade practices concerning international transport," he said.

In future the International Road Freight Office will only issue multi-journey or period permits for France.
