Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Up-for-sale trailer manufacturer Craven Tasker has clinched orders with five fleet operators which it claims will maintain record sales in 1988.

The Sheffield-based firm is supplying 50 dry-freight vans to BRS for its Lyons Cakes contract, 40 curtainsiders to United Yeast and 10 flats to Browns Transport. BRS Northern is ordering 30 trailers, while Harrison and Jones wants 11 flats.

This year Craven Tanker sold 65 vans to the Post Office and 36 curtainsiders to Kodak. Another order to Sainsburys was worth 21 million.

• The port of Newhaven in East Sussex has handled over one million tonnes of cargo this year — the first time in a decade this figure has been reached, says port manager Gordon Burke. Some 50,000 lorries have used Newhaven this year. Burke expects new facilities, now being built, including a roadstone and aggregate processing plant and a coach fast-routing system, to increase demand even more next year.

• In the six months to the end of September United Transport enjoyed an 11.3% increase in turnover to 2199.1 million, but its profits increased by only 1.3% to .215.6 million. The company blames exchange rate losses and a decline in passenger operations for the disappointing results.

• Freight group TNT is building new headquarters next to its parcels distribution hub at Atherstone, in the Midlands. The company says the offices, covering 3,350m2 and due to be completed in November 1988, are needed because of recent expansion.
