IRISH OPPOSITION to the mem bership of the Commons selec committees has delayed the ap pointment of the transport com mittee.
The Democratic Unionists ar protesting that Ulster is unrepre sented on all the select commil tees and last week blocke, moves to set them up.
But even when that problem i solved the committee could fac problems electing a chairmar Tyne Bridge Labour MP Harr Cowans was set to becom chairman, but this has bee thrown in doubt by his appoini ment as the person responsibl for ensuring that Labour MP play the full part for Labour' special campaigns.
The Tory majority on the corr mittee is unwilling to have Ea ing Southall MP Sydney Bidwe as chairman at any price, whil Sunderland South MP Gordo Bagier, the senior of the thre Labour MPs on the committe has shown little inclination t take on the job.
Once the dilemma is resolve( there seems to be a generi agreement that the committe should complete the reports o road safety and bus subsidie started in the last Parliament.
