YOUR correspondent, Robert Preston (CM October 8), was right in saying Cumminspowered ERFs were made prior to 1961. The advertisement in the September 10 ERF Golden Jubilee issue of CM showed the first Cummins-powered ERF which went into service in the UK during 1961.

Before this time, Cummins power was used by ERF for export specification vehicles, but both ERF and Cummins are fairly confident that the Butt eightwheeler shown was the first in service in this country.

Your correspondent must be congratulated in his knowledge and interest in British-built trucks and engines.
