DOCKERS at Portsmouth were following a fortnight of picketing which disrupted the port's ro-ro s A cooling off period has been put into operation and negotiations are going on.
Transport and General Workers' Union official Mr Tom Hibberd told CM this week that while the negotiations are going on there will be peace for the trouble-hit ferry Amorique.
He said that when the dock labour scheme is extended and Portsmouth is brought into it work will be shared around the South coast ports and end the current problems.
The trouble began when Normandy Ferries began a new ro-ro service from St Malo to Portsmouth, which the Southampton dockers claimed ought to have operated into Southampton. Both Southampton and Portsmouth dockers picketed the ferry.
