Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

within a certain distance of a zebra crossing. Can you tell me how this zone is recognized?

AAt present the prohibited area is marked by a line of studs usually 15yd from the crossing in a 30 mph area and 25yd from the crossing where there is a higher or no speed limit.

Under the Zebra Pedestrian Crossings Regulations 1971 which came into force on September 29 1971 it is illegal to park vehicles or to overtake within the marked zebra crossing zone. These controlled zones are now to be marked with zigzag lines on each side of the crossing. No specific distance for the zone has been laid down in regulations, the decision is being left to the discretion of the local authority depending on the situation of the crossing in relation to road junctions and other traffic hazards. The marking may extend as far as 60ft on either side of the crossing and a give-way line will be placed one yard from each side of the crossing.

The new markings are expected to appear on all of the 10,000-odd zebra crossings at present in use in the country and concern has been expressed by the ETA because the implication of these regulations is that they will cause further major reductions in kerb parking space available for delivery vehicles.
