• The first Gardner 8LXB engines to be fitted by Atkinson into its Venturer double-drive six wheelers are now entering service with the heavy haulage division of Pickfords Ltd. Twelve of these 240 hp tractive units have been delivered, plated for 50 tons gross train weight. The eight cylinder engine drives through a Lipe Rollway 14in. twin-plate clutch and Fuller RT0909 nine speed range-change gearbox to an Eaton 38DS double-drive bogie.
The Atkinsons are coupled to King tandem-axle low-loading trailers, each axle being plated for 15 tons.
