GLASGOW CORPORATION transport department's "Park and ride' scheme made a slow start last week but there are signs that it may gain in use. By this scheme the former Kelvinbridge mineral station, now cleared, is used to park cars at a cost of Is. for two hours and 2s, for longer, the tickets acting as transfer tickets for use of the city underground system which permits continuation into the centre of Glasgow.
The park can take 250 cars but only 16 motorists used it on the first day. On the second day there was a 100 per cent increase and a steady build-up is expected as the value of the scheme is demonstrated. Car owners' attitude to the development was demonstrated in the parking of cars outside the new car park, indicating the reluctance to pay for parking either in the centre of the city or in the outer circle.
Darlington to Get One-man Buses: Darlington Corporation transport committee has approved the principle of using one-man buses. Tenders are to be invited by the committee for the supply of six single-deck chassis and bodies for delivery in 1966.
