AT the end of the year Mr. R. P. Block is relinquishing his managing directorship of the contract-hire specialists, Blox Services Ltd., and their subsidiaries. He started Blox Services in 1947 with 11 vehicles and the present fleet exceeds 400. Refrigeration has been a recent development and the specialist subsidiary, Blox (Polar Blast) Services Ltd.. are currently handling a repeat order of 165 such vehicles.
Blox Services, with headquarters in London, now provide country-wide coverage from 120 service points in association with the appropriate manufacturers. Mr. Block is to be succeeded by 36-yearold Mr. Peter Wright, who joined the company in 1960 to develop the refrigeration side of the business. More recently he has understudied Mr. Block prior to taking over control next year.
In future Mr. Block is to devote his time to management education, consultancy and training. In particular he considers there is a very real need for training facilities for existing transport management quite apart from what may be provided under an Industrial Training Board for future managers and their staff.
