ANEW transport depot for L. V. Mays Transport Ltd. was opened last Friday by Ald. Cyril S. Marsh, the Mayor of Merton.

Situated at Lyon Road, Windsor Avenue, South Wimbledon, the premises comprise new .offices and workshops and were built by the company's specially recruited building staff to their own designs.

Since 1949, when Mr. Leo Mays, the present managing director, returned from service in the RAF, the fleet has grown from six A-licensed vehicles to one in excess of 80 vehicles and now comprises vans, flat platform, semiand low-loading vehicles and trailers from 15 cwt. to 15 tons capacity, and mobile cranes up to 12 tons capacity. The fleet is engaged on contract hire, general and parcels deliveries for many local and national companies.

Three companies have been absorbed since 1949 and the purchase of a fourth, Swift Carriers Ltd., of Croydon, is now being finalized.

REDUNDANCY PAYMENTS EFFECTIVE ON MONDAY

A S from Monday next (December 6) the Redundancy Payment Act, 1965, requires that all workers between the ages of 18 and 65 with two or more continuous years of service shall be entitled to lump-sum payments should they become redundant.

Lancashire Vehicle Offences : A total of 5,894 goods vehicles were checked by officers of Lancashire County Council in the year ended March 31 last (1,007 less than in the previous year) and 1,024 were found to be over the unladen weight declared in the last licence application.
