TRADE union pressure for a revision of the pay structure for BRS white collar staffs has been largely met in the agreement reached last week at a meeting of the NJIC. A pay rise is linked with a revised structure in which all but Special Class A reach maximum after three years instead of four, and there is a new London weighting allowance and improved sickness benefits for all staff.
The Two Stages Stage 1 is a general increase in provincial rates, ranging from £10 to £55. p.a., which takes effect next Monday,
December 6; an increase from £40 to £55 in the London weighting takes effect at the same time. Stage 2 will take effect on March 28 next year and will be a revision of the pay structure having the effect of adding as little as £15 or as much as £90 to the basic pay, according to grade and year of service. For example, Class 3, second-year staff will get £30 more under stage 1 and £15 more under stage 2, while a Special Class A employee will get a first-year rise of £40 in stage 1 and £95 in stage 2.
The. sickness benefit now provides, for example, two weeks at full pay and four at half pay after six months' service, and 26 weeks at full pay and 26 at half pay after seven years..
