Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ATANKER vehicle in which the container also does duty as the chassis frame, forms the subject of a recent patent taken out by Dennis Bros„ Ltd., guildford. The engine, front-axle assembly and cab are mounted on a Ushaped cantilever-girder member, the arms of which run to the rear, and are attached at two jloints to the lank through the medium of welded brackets.

At the rear, brackets of a. similar type are used to form anchorage points for the springs, a separate welded-on member forming a means for supporting the spare wheel. 'The drive to the rear axle is by a conventional propeller shaft and, in connection with the possible dismantling of the universal joint, provision is made for arranging a suitable support Air the shaft.

It will be noted from the drawing of the complete machine that, due to the absence of the deep-section side member of a normal chassis frame, the area midway in the length of the container is free from obstruction. The design suggests that this would be a convenient point at which to arrange the discharge pipes.

Such a form of construction should show a considerable reduction in the tail weight of the complete unit.
