WELL over 100 operators in the district attended the A.R.O. meeting held at Croydon on Monday. Mr. Rusholm Brown was chairman.
Mr. H. G. Williams, M.P., who is a member of the Parliamentary Road Group, said that, whilst the main purpi3se of his visit, was for education in road-transport matters, he strongly repudiated the denial of opportunity to the individual, such as was manifest at the present time in the road-transport industry. He would, he said, support to the utmost of his ability legitimate claims of those engaged in the industry.
Major H. E. Crawfurd, president of A.R.O., pointed out that when the Royal 'Commission on Transport, of which he was a member, sat, the railways were represented by one man, whereas, in the case of road transport, information had to be sought from 16 different sources. there was also the danger of the C-licensee, a problem which would not be easy of solution in framing any rates structure. A.R.O. is to be congratulated on the free and easy atmosphere which prevailed at this meeting, to which the close proximity of the bar and the " tables for four" may have contributed. The bar, however, was not available during speech time.
