Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ESPITE the fact that 11 years 1./have passed since the termination of the war there is still a large number of war-type goods vehicles in regular service, and catering for the overhaul and repair of these machines is a very responsible business. One of the concerns which have specialized in keeping very complete stocks of parts Par wartype ehttisis and in providing reliable maintenance service for them is WiUiarn HurIoek, Junr., Ltd., of 55, Effra Road, London, S.W.2.

On one floor [done of this company's premises there are no fewer than 1.000 tons of chassis components. Most of these parts have been purchased from various Government Departments, and almost every type of war vehicle is wil

represented. Mr. William Hu rlock, in conducting us over the depot, explained that practically every part of the R.A.F.-type Leyland chassis up to the 192:3 model and many engine parts up to the 1927 model are to hand, as well as almost every component of the Government-type Dennis, Thornyeroft, A.E.C., Peerless, F.W.D., Perna and other makes of chassis. To take one item alone, there are about 150,000 ball races.

A big and growing side-line is that of tools and tool kits, both for commercial-vehicle service and for general engineering purposes, whilst jacks, acetylene and electric lamps, canvas lorry sheets, leather straps, brake and clutch facings, lire extinguishers, etc., are seen in a vast profusion.

On a lower floor the heavy parts are stored, these including lathes and other machinery, many thousands of roadwheel springs, large quantities of framemembers, cylinder blocks, crankcase, B42 gearbox and back-axle eastingi, etc.

When we come to study this ,service we find that the company has a work. shop with over 70 machines, and a staff of some SO mechanics engaged in chassis-overhaul and bodywork opera

tions. Practically every kind of overhaul is done on the premises, and the company has eV-en constructed its own

sold after reconditioning are guaranteed for six months.

The company has also successfully developed a method of converting fourwheeled chassis into sii-wheelers, by extending the frames and adding a trailing axle, and many machines so converted are, we understand, giving satisfactory service to haeliers.
