Motorcycle Show, which is now being held at Olympia, is a most interesting light delivery vehicle which is being shown by its manufacturer, S. A. Newman, Ltd., of Lichfield Road, Birmingham. It consists of a motorcycle frame and engine built on to a lightcar-type chassis. The motorcycle parts that are used are a main diamond frame, spring-forks, engine, handlebars, engine plates and gearbox, and the frame is mounted on the channel-section main chassis members by means of cross-bolts and bracing struts.
Cross-members of channel steel are located about the middle of the chassis and at the rear, whilst the gearbox is mounted on a longitudinal member running from the rear engine plates to the middle cross-member. The drive is by chain, in the normal motorcycle fashion, but the secondary drive is to the crown wheel of an enclosed differential gear. The rear axle is mounted upon sliding trunnions, •which can be adjusted lengthwise by long draw-bolts.
The body, which encloses the whole chassis, is mounted on coil springs at the front and upon upwardturned quarter-elliptics at the rear. The driver's seat is built in one with the body, and is, therefore, fully sprung, whilst the driver's compartment is provided with a scuttle across the handlebars and a roof which is built integral with an upward extension of the scuttle, upon 'which there is an adjustable windscreen.
The engine that is used is a Sturmey-Archer single-cylindered air-cooled 3Ah.p. unit, with an Amal carburetter and a Lucas Magdyno (combined magneto and dynamo) ignition system. The gearbox is of Sturmey-Archer manufacture and provides three speeds. A kick-starter is supplied and the gear-change lever is mounted on the side of the tank. Dunlop 2(1-in. by 3.25-in. tyres are used.
The interior dimensions are : Length 3 ft. 6 ins., width 2 ft. 10 ins, and depth 3 ft. The overall length of the vehicle is 8 ft. and the width 4 ft. The u-eight is approximately 4 cwt. The Ivy Karryall can be driven by an intelligent youth who is qualified to hold a motorcycle licence, and the price is £85, ex works.
