Unfaltering Progress Maintained—First Consignments Already in France— Total of Cash Donations to Saturday Last £666 —Third List of Gifts in Kind.

Ladies Committee: Mrs. Shraonell-Smith, Mrs. S. S. Long (wife of the Director of S. and Ti. Mrs. Bagnall-Wild (wife of a former Sec. M.T.C.), Mrs. W. B. Donohue (wife of the C.I.M.T.). Hon. Sec. and Treasurer to Fund : The Editor.

There have been no signs of faltering, nor occasion for change of policy on our part, since this journal started its "Campaign Comforts" Fund for the A.S.C., M.T., in October. The number of men has now increased by almost 5000, making a total of approximately 15,000 in the Mechanical Transport Columns, so we are proved to be strictly correct in leaving the Horse Transport to others. The committee of ladies, whose names have been given by us for a month past, continue to aid us by their valued co-operation. It was estimated by us that we might hope to reach a cash total of £1000 by February. Exactly how much sooner it will fall to the lot of the Hon. Auditors, Messrs. E. Bishop and Co., Chartered Accountants, of Jermyn Street, St, James's, W., to record that stage of events, depends upon our readers.

£480 Already Expended. Those all-important branches of activity which this Fund has called into being, which deal specifically with the careful purchase of suitable supplies, their reception and sorting, their packing, despatch and distribution, have been increasingly active during the past week.

Orders have now been placed for well over 3000 pairs of suitable driving gloves for early despatch, and numbers of cases have already been made up and sent out from the first deliveries Tobacco and cigarettes, all of the best quality, and in suitablesized packets for individual gifts, have for some week or two been on order, and it is anticipated that cases sufficient for 11,000 men will be on their way to the Front by the time this issue appears in print.

Undervests, Jerseys and Mufflers.

We wish to repeat our appeal for special gifts of warm undervests and jerseys (old ones suitably repaired are quite useful for the purpose). A lady has suggested to us the passibility of turning to account, for the comfort of the motor drivers, the old fur tip

pets or capes which used to be so popular as part of the uniform of a coachman in private service. She is collecting a number of these, which we shall despatch to the Front in due course. Others will be welcome.

Prompt Business Methods.

It cannot be over emphasized that every care has been taken from the first to insure, not only that there is efficiency of the organization which is collecting funds and gifts in kind for the men of the A.S.C., M.T., but that the subsequent employment of those gifts to the best passible advantage shall be dictated by prompt business considerations and administration. We think we have a right to claim that this has been carried out so far. Our gifts for the A.S.C., KT., will promptly and certainly reach the men for whom they are intended ; to this end the ready cooperation of our many military helpers and our carefully-schemed and now-completed organization will ensure satisfactory results. We are confining our attention to the wants of the men of the A.S.C., MT.— and there are 14,800 of such troops. Another fund is making adequate preparations to look after the many horsed units of the same branch of the Army ; their needs are, of course, of a different nature.
