• The Department of Transport is backing a research project designed to keep key London routes clear for commercial vehicles. Working with the County Surveyors Society and the Civic Trust, the DTp will be loojting for measures "that are cost effective to assist local authorities in planning lorry management measures".
Traffic flow should also be eased by promised legislation to modify the 1950 Public Utilities Street Works Act and encourage greater co-ordination of roadworks by the utilities. 1:1 London gets less than its share of road spending, says the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
