• London Dial-a-Ride has called for increased cash to improve its transport services for disabled Londoners.
Dave Wetzel, director of the London Dial-a-Ride Users' Association, says that if an 50,000 members tried to use the service at once, they would have to wait 11 weeks to get a trip.
London Dial-a-Ride has received a £7.2 million grant, passed through London Regional Transport which administers it. This has to be shared out through the 29 Diala-Rides, and Wetzel says that it is not enough.
The Croydon and Sutton Dial-a-Ride is facing an accommodation crisis this October: premises in the Croydon area are being sought urgently. 0 London Regional Transport is inviting tenders to operate its wheelchair-accessible singledeck buses on 10 new routes planned for the Croydon, Mitcham and Wandsworth areas.
Two LRT-owned 22-seaters with space for up to five wheelchairs will run on different routes each weekday, at times to be discussed with the contractor.
