Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Lincolnshire Road Car is closing its South Lincolnshire operations this month. The company, a former National Bus Company subsidiary, is shutting its Boston and Holbeach depots, with 24 vehicles, although Holbeach has been bought by independent operator Fowler, of Holbeach Drove.

The Boston services were losing heavily through competition and low-priced county council contracts. Although Holbeach broke even, its viability was dependent on the parent garage. Fowler will take over all Holbeach staff and services as well as a few vehicles. The 35 staff at Boston will be made redundant.

A company spokesman described Boston as a lost cause.
