• Transport rental firm Tiphook has signed two contracts with the Soviet Union's international road transport company. Tiphook, which is bidding in conjunction with Stem Line for control of Sea Containers, says the "significant" deals will ''offer the potential for the Tiphook group to expand into the huge Soviet market".
Sovtransavto and Tiphook trailer rental subsidiary Central Trailer Rentco have set up a joint venture called Sovtrans Trailer Rentco which will bring trailer rental to the Soviet Union. CTR will also provide trailers to the Soviet firm at agreed rates in 10 western European countries.
CTR is providing investment and assistance in the development of spare parts, control and purchasing. Sovtransavto will help with ministerial matters and advise on the Soviet transport scheme.
CTR already rents trailers to Sovtransavto in Germany, Holland, Finland and the UK. El A US court has rejected Sea Container's second attempt to impose an injunction blocking the proposed Stem/ Tiphook takeover.
