The council's planning committee voted by eight (Conservative) to two (Alliance) on Monday evening to seek a further fleeting with the CEGB to try to draw up a compromise proposal. 'Hie Alliance councillors wanted the CEGB application thrown out.
They are to ask the CEGB to reduce the maximum number of lorries to fewer than 100 a day, to discuss in detail the routes to he followed by lorries in Didcot and surrounding villages, and to ensure that none of the lorries runs at night.
There has been no suggestion, as yet, of a weekend ban on the coal lorries.
A council spokesman told CM that a meeting with the CEGB was possible later this month, with the planning committee meeting again early in September.
