SOUTH YORKSHIRE PTE is soon to put into service its first lpg-powered bus. It is a Leyland AN 68 Atlantean which will be powered by a RollsRoyce engine adapted to run on lpg coupled to a Voith D851 fully automatic transmission incorporating an integrated retarder.
Externally the bus will be to standard SYPTE specifications. Bodywork will be by Charles H. Roe. This lpg bus will be the second lpg-powered double-decker to go into service in Britain.
The first, a Daimler Fleetline, has been in service with municipal operator Cleveland Transit for many years.
