Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Robert Crawford, previously projects manager for the heavy vehicle division of Leyland Vehicles, this week moved to the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive as director of planning and engineering.

He succeeds Stan Jobling who retired last week.

Mr Crawford joined Leyland from Chrysler in 1974 and before this worked for both Vauxhall and Rootes. In his new post he is responsible for all the engineering operations at West Midlands PTE.

New managing director of Perkins Engines is Adrian Parsons, executive director of the company's UK operations. Mr Parsons, who joined Perkins in 1970 as financial analysis manager, now also has control of the newly-formed group finance plus the UK personnel and industrial relations divisions.

Donald Johnson has been named as the new assistant to the regional director for the Midlands and West Region of the National Bus Company. He is currently company secretary at Cumberland Motor Services, which he joined in 1955. Mr Johnson, who takes up his new post at the beginning of October, succeeds Anthony Worley who is moving to Midland Red as chief network designer.

Another NBC appointment is that of John Campbell who has joined East Kent and Maidstone and District as Continental travel officer. He is responsible for the Continental coaching operations, plus handling arrangements for foreign parties visiting this country.

Nigel Greenslade has been appointed manager of Clearfreight for Southern British Road Services. In this newlycreated position he will be controlling the haulage brokerage services that Clearfreight offers. Mr Greenslade, previously with Overseas Containers, will be based at the Southern BRS head office in Potter's Bar.

National Tyre Service has announced that John Clark is the new divisional manager for Tyne and Wear. Mr Clark, who joined the company in 1965, was formerly manager at the Ashington branch. He is now based at the Newcastle offices, where he takes over from Alan Maguire, who is promoted to regional sales manager for the West Midlands.

Guy Tidbury, senior lecturer in the School of Automotive Studies, has been made a director of studies in vehicle structures at Cransfield Institute of Technology. Mr Tidbury, who has been at the Institute since 1960, and previously worked for five years with Vauxhall Motors as a commercial vehicle development engineer.

Recently-elected as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport is Glyn Samuel, the chairman of the Transport Association and managing director of Flowers Transport. Ian Dallison, head of inland transport for the British Steel Corporation, has also been elected as a Fellow of the Institute.
