• The first major step since the Anglo-Dutch board of Unilever intimated its intention to exploit the European transport market (CM July 20) is imminent. A spokesman for Unilever told CM this week that it is about to sign an agreement acquiring the entire share capital of Norfolk Lijn NV of Holland. It already holds a 50 per cent share of the company's British subsidiary Norfolk Line Ltd.
Norfolk Lijn operates three ferries and some 500 trailers. It depends largely for its tractive units on ownerdrivers in Norfolk. The spokesman said that neither the operation of the ferry company nor its 330 employees would be affected by the takeover. The value of the acquisition is undisclosed.
