• DoE officials are joining with Bristol City Police during the coming weeks to purge law-breaking operators.
It is understood that traffic and vehicle examiners will travel in police patrol cars around the Bristol area stopping lorries and checking documents and mechanical condition.
Officials travel with the police because they are not empowered to stop vehicles.
A spokesman for the DoE said: "This is just a variation on our roadside checks. They have been carried out before."
