S MANAGING DIRECTOR OF ritain's No 1 Tachograph nalysis Bureau and an :knowledged expert in :cident/incident evaluation in ly own right, I wish to refer to BC Nationwide programme Natchdog" shown on March 5, which referred to VASCAR id similar speed-check estems.
During the programme, they ave an example where the )urts refused the evidence for a [chograph chart against the atrument.
I am writing to point out that is is not always the case, and is ot correct; we had a driver :quitted in March of last year. le have since dealt with similar 5ses, when the summons has ither been dropped or the otice of Impending rosecution has gone no further. The tachograph received lough "stick" earlier on and is programme did nothing for s modern image.
I would like to particularly Dint out as an acknowledged (pert in this field:—
The tachograph is calibrated id sealed to a very exact Decification; it is still the most curate means of establishing ie circumstances of an incident 5 it is situated within the 3hicle.
Due to the fact that many iagistrates do not understand ie tachograph chart — we have eveloped a photomicrographic rocess — so we photograph the len as seen through the horoscope — this gives :Inclusive evidence.
We supply incident/accident acks, but, more important, the river should obtain the initials r signature of the police officer rid his number and time on the )ar section of his chart. This ives conclusive evidence that at is the chart appertaining to
that date and time. If the police officer refuses, which has been .known, then the driver should endeavour to obtain an ,independent witness.
I hope that this will help to put drivers' and operators minds' at rest — that the tachograph is and has been used in court for their benefit.
