AT Nottingham, last week, the magistratestrates dismissed a case brought against a pedestrian for " interrupting the free passage of carriages on the highway and obstructing a policeman in the execution of his duty." It was stated that the pedestrian stepped off the pavement at a zebra crossing while a police constable was holding others back.
When asked why he had ignored the policeman's signal, he declared that neither the policeman nor anyone else had any, right to prevent him crossing. His solicitor added that the case demonstrated clearly that the regulations governing pedestrian crossings were completely inadequate.
