13 December 2012: consultation launched on the future strategy of the Department for Transport's four agencies: DVLA, DSA, Vosa and the Vehicle Certification Agency.
7 March 2013: consultation closes.
20 June: the plan to merge Vosa and DSA is announced. Alastair Peoples is named as chief executive of the new agency.
30 June: Rosemary Thew, DSA chief executive, leaves the agency.
2 October: first meeting of the transitional board of the new agency takes place. 1 April 2014: merger expected to be complete and new agency launched.
