• A huge international rail terminal surrounded by distribution centres is to be built on the site of a former power station near Birmingham.

The scheme at Hams Hall features a giant intermodal rail terminal linked to the Channel Tunnel that could be handling as many as 300,000 containers annually by 2006, creating a total of 5,000 jobs

The terminal will will be run by American-owned firm Parsec of Europe. It could be operating a 24-hour operation as early March 1997—so far companies to sign up for distribution centres include Hays Distribution and Exei Logistics' brewing division Tradeteam.
