'HE SELECTION of Pembroke port in Wales by 13+I for ferry service o Cork has been condemmed by a spokesman for the newly estabished TNT Irish Overnite Express.
The company, which has been eveloped from TNT's British pperation offers, among other ervices, guaranteed next-day Parcel delivery from Dublin to arious locations in the United :ingdom, and delivery anywhere in Ireland to anywhere in le UK, within 48 hours.
Adam Shuter, group mareting manager with TNT {UK), aid that many deliveries from :ork and to Cork from the UK would not be handled through le 13+1 Cork-Pembroke service, put would be routed through losslare and Fishguard.
"I'm afraid that for companies ke ours, where speed and ease 4 transport are of primary importance, Pembroke is not suitble. There are bad road links letween Pembroke and Swanea, for example, and the time )St is a problem.
"If B+I restores its Cork to ;wansea service, then obviously 'NT will be extremely interested using that service for parcels nd freight between the UK and Ireland," said Mr Shuter.
Irish MP Denis Lyons, who spoke at the Cork launch of the TNT Irish Overnite service, agreed that it was crucial that B+I's Swansea link be restored. "The Cork to Swansea link is infinitely more marketable than the existing route. I am extremely concerned 8+1 may be thinking about downgrading its Cork to Britain service."
