Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

REGARDING the news item {CM August 29) concerning pickets at Seaforth Container Terminal attempting to enforce the 'drivers' identity stamp scheme".

I would like to suggest that you question the people involved in trying to get this much-needed scheme off the ground instead of asking the Road Haulage Association whose back-stabbing members got the industry into the mess it's in today.

To answer your main point that the scheme is not being very widely used: that is because in most areas we are responding to our union's request to mark time, but we also are becoming very frustrated and plans are being made to follow Liverpool's lead.

I should also like to mention that at the last Reg. Scheme meeting I attended there was only one area of the UK not represented — that was Scotland. Now, if you would like to consider that in our area of Ipswich and Felixstowe the registration scheme membership is in excess of 600, all "voluntary", then I think you should find the national membership must be in the five figure mark.

Now to my final point made in your publication as in many others I have read. My Liverpool colleagues are being painted as a bunch of anarchists whereas in truth they are a group of men asking to be allowed to work within the confines of the law of this country, a fact that everybody seems to ignore.
