THREE hauliers have joined forces and started a new company to carry out a long-term contract to the Middle East.
The new company, Vijor International, will be transporting animal feed mills, in sections, to the Middle East. It was formed by two Gloucestershire operators, Eric Vick Transport of Hard Wicke and Richard Read Transport of Longhope, and Cheshire operator Jones Transport of Sandbach.
Eighty-four loads will be delivered in all and the first consignments have already left Britain in convoy. Each 7,000mile trip will take about a month, bait if documentation en route goes smoothly the journey is expected to take only 12 days each way.
The vehicles, derivatives of the ERF European tractive units, are being compelled to detour through the Turkish mountains because the border between Syria and Iraq is closed due to a dispute.
This diversion means that the 42,000kg (41.3-ton) units are travelling over unmetalled roads and are camping in convoy to reduce the risk of theft.
The vehicles have Dynair fans and Jacobs brakes, and the cabs are fitted with air conditioning, refrigerators, cooking units and double bunks.
