Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The British Trailer Co. Ltd., of Phoenix Works, Richmond Road, Trafford Park, Manchester. has a new tandem-axled semitrailer for operation at up to 32 tons g.v.w., to be shown at the Scottish Motor Show. It features a four-spring bogie and solid axles and will replace the trunnion-mounted inverted twin-spring bogied models W6000 and W4783.

The new bogie employs semi-elliptic leaf springs with shackle eyes at both ends, bushed with nylon. Either multior single-taper-leaf springs can be specified. The balance-beam assembly is a fabricated unit bushed in all three bores with the same material used in the spring eyes--connection to the spring-eyes is through shackles. The axles are made from 3.75in. diameter 40/45 tons tensile steel and carry braking units operated through S-cams and a three-line pressure system. The brake sizes are 15.5in. diameter by 6in. wide.

A rolled-steel lightweight I-section beam is used for the main frame and this is flitched at all stress points. RSJ and channel-section cross-members brace the frame and support the centre section of the flooring. Profiled outriggers support the outside floorboards and the pressed-steel side rave.
