• At the Metropolitan traffic court on Monday the deputy L.A. Mr. W. Levitt, granted an application by A. E. Robson Ltd. to transfer its five A-licensed vehicles from Oxford to the premises of SAS Road Transport (Lewisham) Ltd., at Lewisham. London.
The application was objected to by John Miller (Smithfield) Ltd., represented by Mr. J. Amphlett; Robertson Buckley and Co. Ltd., the Union Cartage Co.. Mole Transport Ltd. and J. Packer and Sons Ltd., were all represented by Mr. Peter Singer; British Railways were represented by Mr. Reeve.
Mr. Amphlett and Mr. Singer asked for the case to be adjourned and heard with the SAS application for a new A licence for three artics listed for Wednesday. An objection by Miss E. Havers, representing Robson, was upheld.
Both Mr. Amphlett and Mr. Singer said they felt their task was now hopeless and, other than the cross-examination of Mr. L R. Robson, managing director of A. E. Robson, by Mr. Singer, they offered no further evidence and withdrew with the plea that the decision be reserved until the application by SAS had been heard.
Miss Havers said Robson had operated five vehicles on A licence since 1935. The present licence was held in the East Midlands traffic area with a normal user of "mainly meat" within 150 miles.
The earnings for the financial year ended September 30 1969 had been £24,000 of which £3,000 had been work undertaken for SAS.
Miss Havers said that although the major shareholding of Robson had been sold to two of the directors of SAS, Mr. Robson would remain as managing director of Robson for at least five years.
Mr. Singer said that SAS was only incorporated on August 12 1968. In one year Rob son had completed work worth £3,000 for SAS which gave the impression that it was taking Robson over, especially if the new licences were later granted to SAS. As SAS had only Contract A licences at the moment, a licence for three new artics would be likely to deprive Robson of most of his work.
The SAS application, previously listed for hearing before Mr. D. I. R. Muir, the Metro
politan La, on Wednesday, was adjourned and will be re-listed for hearing by the deputy LA.
