• An application by F. W. Powell and Sons was granted in Wrexham on Tuesday after it had been amended to meet objections. The case was heard by the North Western LA, Mr. C. R. Hodgson, and was objected to by five companies.
The applicant firm had withdrawn the first part of its application, for a new A licence in respect of two vehicles, prior to coming to the public inquiry. The remainder of the application was to add to its B licence goods for R. Seddon, Wrexham. and Rubery Owen Co. Ltd., as required and to increase its radius in respect of building plant and materials from 65 miles to 150.
Mr. G. H. P. Beames. for the applicant, said that there was only a letter in support of the Rubery Owen part of the application and he would not pursue that point. The increase in radius was sought in the hope of being able to carry return loads.
Mr. J. S. Lawton, for the objectors, said that he would oppose the radius increase, but was not concerned with the remainder of the application. In view of this comment, the applicant decided to withdraw the radius increase.
Mr. A. E. Jones, who is foreman for Seddon, said that at present the hauliers he was using were unsatisfactory and that due to this a number of complaints had been received from his customers. Mr. Powell, however, would be most convenient. The addition of goods for R. Seddon was granted.
