SHOULD children be forced to give up their seats on buses when adults are standing? Hull Transport Committee, who were considering making this compulsory, have decided to take no further action following a report from Mr. G. H. Pulfrey, general manager. His report was compiled after the committee had considered complaints that half-fare passengers were occupying seats when adults were standing, Dlr. E. Kirkwood pointed out that the average parent did not encourage children to stand although children travelling alone usually did give up their seats. Aid. J. Henson, chairman, said that since the Matter had been discussed by the committee there. seemed to have been a change in parents' attitude.

PROGRESS ON B.R.S. BASE

THE new haulage depot being built for British Road Services on a 16,acre site at Team Valley, Gateshead, is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.

About 300 vehicles will operate from the depot and there will be a staff of about 500.

H.P. RESTRICTIONS END ALL restrictions on the hire-purchase and renting of private cars came to an end on Wednesday. Up to that date it was necessary to make an initial payment of 33+ per cent, and repay the balance over 24 months.

Commercial vehicles were freed from restriction on September 15.
