Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PRODUCTION of the Perkins Four 99 1.6 litre 43 b.h.p. oil engine is to be undertaken in France by Bugatti at their Molsheim factory. The engines will be made under licence on behalf of the Societe Francaise des Moteurs F. Perkins. Production is to start soon and is expected to number 5,000 engines in the first year, 12,000 during the second and more than 20,000 during the third.

A number of French car and tractor manufacturers is stated to be interested in the Four 99 and it is believed that there is a substantial potential market in France for this unit. Other Perkins engines have been made in France since 1954.

It was announced earlier this week that an order had been placed with F. Perkins, Ltd., for 102 Four 99 engines, which will be fitted to taxis in Hong Kong and Kowloon.

S1X-WHEELED COMET FOR BULK LOADS

APPRECIABLE savings in cost have been made by the Southern Gas Service, Southampton, who have put into service a Leyland Comet with a third axle fitted and the chassis reinforced by J. H. Sparshatt and Sons (Southampton), Ltd. The conversion added about 14 cwt. to the unladen weight of the chassis.

An Eaton-Hendrickson RS.320 trailingaxle unit was used. Rubber suspension affords a high degree of articulation. Chassis-strengthening plates are fitted to each longitudinal frame member, and an additional cross-member with flitch plates carries the torsion-rod brackets.

To carry 12-ton loads of either coal or coke in bulk, Sparshatt provided a light-alley body 18 ft. long, 8 ft. wide and 6 ft. 6 in. high. Agents for the sixwheeler conversion in the south, Sparshatt quote £650 as the cost for adapting a Comet with a heavy-duty two-speed axle.
