MUST WAGES BE PAID TO MEN •, UNDER SUSPENSION?

THE latest problem in Manchester revolves around the question. of whether corporation transport department employees, being " prbtected " under the Essential Works Order, are , entitled totheir wages when under suspension. Theo men claim that they are, and have pressed their argument so strongly upon their trade union—the United 'Road Transport Workers' Assoeiation—that, believing suspensions without pay are contrary to the Order, it has asked for a ruling. Numerous instances have arisen of men being "played Off j' for two or three days for breaches of regulations. There does not appear to be any (MEpute about the authorities" having thus acted 'correctly, as " errors " are punished under routine arrangements. The crucial point is that they claim wages' while under suspension, not having done anything sufficiently serious to warrant total dismissal.
