THEMinister of Labour and National Service has reconstituted the Road Haulage Central Wages Board' for the regulation of wages ad conditions of employment of road-haulage workers employed on Vehicles operating under A 'and B licences and' 4.,and B defence permits.

A CONCESSION c,ONCERNING STANDING PASSENGERS

ON October 23 the M. of W.T. made, an Order concerning the carrying of standing passengers up to a number not exceeding half of the number of passengers for which the vehicle, or, in the case of a double-decker, the lower deck, has seating capacity, subject, however, to a maximum of 12.• None may be carried on the upper deck, and there must not be any unoccupied seats. Passengers will also appreciate the fact that the undue-hardship clause has been omitted. The concession is at the discretion of the Commissioners.

The Commissioners in their Regions will also consult with officials of the Transport and General Workers Union .before making their decisions, It should be noted that Commissioners are also authorized to permit, single-deck buses engaged on spec& services to carry standing passengers up to the total number for which seating accommodation is provided, subject to a maximum of 30, and on condition that the

vehicles are specially adapted. This refers to vehicles with lengthwise seats FUEL FOR TRANSFERRED PASSENGER VEHICLES ,

A REMINDER to the C.M.U.A. from

tge M. of W.T. is to the effect that an increasing number of public-service vehicles is being detached from owners' fleets and transferred.. from certain parts of the country to others for work on essential services.

To facilitate fuel rationing of such vehicles, rations for the services on which they are engaged will, in future, be issued in all cases by the Regional. TransportCommissioners in whose Regions the vehicles are working, except where any two Commissioners concerned agree otherwise.

Before any v.ehicle is transferred from one Region toanother, the owner; Or; in the case of :hiring, the hirer (who-should, give the name of 'the owner) should. first obtain the consent Of the Regional Transport Commissioner who last issued fuel rations, also the consent of the Commissioner to whose Regibn it is proposed to transfer the vehicle. Where it will be detached flora' the owner's fleet, steps should also be taken to obtain from the 'Commissioner to whose Region it is to be transferred an assdrance that he is prepared to allow fuel for the work to which .the vehicle is to be put. This applies also in-the case of the transference of a whole fleet.
