BIRMINGHAM-BASED haulier Bird's Groupage Services, which specialises in loads to Ireland and Germany, suffered a sharp fall in profits last year.

The firm's pre-tax profits for the financial year ending 31 January 2007 fel: to £521,668 from £1.2m the previous year. Its turnover slipped from 215.7m to £15.2m.

Despite the fall in profits the directors say the results were "satisfactory in view of difficult trading conditions". They expect turnover and profitability to hold steady in 2007.
