of older trucks received an unexpected boost at a recent sale held by Commercial Vehicle Auctions in Doncaster. Unloved F and 0-rag EllFs that had been struggling to make £1,500 started to fetch £3,000 apiece, says managing director Chris Wright. "I think they were destined to be exported to the Caribbean," he adds.

However the star of the show was a 1996 N-rag lveco Ford Cargo 13-tonner fitted with a Whale tank and a combination jetter. "It went for £19,975," says Wright. A 1989 Cargo 13-tonner with a Johnston 600 road sweeper body was disposed of for £6,500.

Volvo FHs were attracting higher bids than they have recently, says Wright: "We sold several 1997 P-plated 4x2 FH tractors at 380hp for £9,000£9,500. Previously they were struggling to make 18,500-£8,750.

'Oaf 85CFs were selling well," he says. "A pair of 5-plated 6x2 tractors at 380hp went for 126,000 each, although it should be said that neither of them had a particularly high mileage." And 1998 11-rag Mercedes-Benz day-cab Atego 7,5-tanners with box bodies were selling for around £12,000.

"We had just over 200 entries in total, and sold 152," says Wright.
