• BBC television personality Peter Duncan is the first person to complete a training module in the RTITB's new training scheme for the road haulage industry.
The star of children's television's Blue Peter desperately needed to pass his HGV Class 1 to enable him to compete in a Truck Grand Prix for his new programme, Duncan Dares.
Film commitments and a tight schedule meant that he had just 10 days available to learn how to drive a truck.
He turned to the RTITB, who sug gested he try the new training scheme, because it minimises time constraints.
Peter was sent to an RTITB-approved training school at Abingdon in Oxfordshire, and for 10 days he was given intense driver training.
On May 15 he took his HGV test and passed first time.
Peter is now ready to compete tomorrow (June 1) in a Leyland Truck in the French Truck Grand Prix at the Paul Ricard Circuit, near Marseilles, If all goes well, Peter hopes to compete also in the British Truck Grand Prix at Silverstone later this year.
