• National Bus Company executive vice chairman Irwin Dalton — a full-time executive board member of the NBC since May 1981 — has been additionally appointed chief executive operations. He will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the group's 52 bus operating companies.
Dalton, 53, is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Transport. He joined the bus industry 24 years ago following 15 years with a firm of chartered accountants.
His first appointment was with West Riding Automobile as assistant company secretary and he became company secretary in 1968. He held a similar position with Crosville from 1971 until 1974 when he moved to Ribble Motor Services as director and general manager.
In 1975 Dalton was appointed north-western divisional director within NBC's former Western region while in 1977 he became south-east regional director. On becoming a main Board member he was appointed director for personnel services his role being widened in 1983 to include overall responsibility for planning, engineering, public and corporate affairs.
