Sheffield-based spring:er Tinsley Bridge is idling a range of taperleaf ngs for use as replacement :s in buses and coaches. lthough most buses and :hes in use in Britain are ”:1 with air suspension or conventional multi-leaf springs, Tinsley Bridge believes many operators will want to convert to taperleaf springs.
Special sales manager Duncan Roberts says taperleaf springs are much lighter and have a longer life than other
suspension systems. They are also more reliable than air suspension systems, he claims, and provide a better ride than multileaf springs.
Taperleaf springs are available as suspension kits, which include shock absorbers and additional fittings where necessary.
The new springs, called Taperlites, are available for the Bristol VRT, the Bristol RE, the Leyland Leopard (types PSU3, PSU4 and PSU5) and the Seddon Pennine.
There are plans to offer Taperlite kits for the Leyland Atlantean, Daimler Fleetline and Dennis Dominator in three months' time.
Tinsley Bridge says that Taperleaf springs can provide weight savings of up to 247kg on a Leyland Leopard PSU5 when compared with conventional multileaf springs.
